Start Here: If You’re New to The HSP Sanctuary
For the person who found one sentence here and felt their body say, “Wait. She means me.
Welcome.
I’m glad you found your way here.
Most people arrive because they think they’re looking for information.
What they’re actually looking for is a sentence that makes them pause and think:Wait. That’s me. A way to understand the exhaustion.
The room-reading. The years spent taking care of everyone except themselves.
The experiences they’ve lived but never had words for.
This is what we do here.
A few things you should know about me.
I’m Sly. Kenyan-born. California-rooted.
A Pediatric Registered Nurse. A Logistics Business Owner.
A woman healing in real time. A Highly Sensitive Person.
I was parentified. I grew up carrying things that were never mine to carry.
For a long time, I thought survival skills were personality traits.
Many of the essays you’ll read here come from discovering the difference.
The HSP Sanctuary isn’t therapy. It’s not self-help. It’s not a place where I pretend to have all the answers. It’s a place where I share what I’m learning as I’m learning it.Then I translate it into language we can actually use. Not years later. Now and in real time.
If you’re wondering where to begin, start with these ideas below.
You don’t always have a self-trust problem. Sometimes you have a self-override history. People-pleasing isn’t always kindness. Sometimes it’s nervous-system protection. Being “fine” isn’t always a feeling. Sometimes it’s a habit. Hyper-independence isn’t always strength. Sometimes it’s what happens when needing people felt unsafe. Your body often knows before your mind does. Learning to listen is part of healing.
The questions we explore here are.
What did you normalize that deserves another look?
What survival strategy have you mistaken for your personality?
What has your body been trying to tell you?
What happens when you stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable?
What becomes possible when you finally believe yourself?
What you’ll find here.
Weekly essays.
Daily Notes.
Real-time healing.
New language for old experiences.
A community of people learning they were never “too much.”
Only ever carrying too much.
If something you’ve read here made you feel seen, start here.

A gentle introduction to how the nervous system keeps score, even when we’re trying to move on.
• You Don’t Have a Self-Trust Problem. You Have a Self-Override History.
For anyone who has spent years doubting themselves when the real story may be that they learned to ignore what they already knew.

Visit The HSP Sanctuary Listening Room, where I share video reflections, stories, and conversations about sensitivity, healing, self-trust, and coming home to yourself. Some videos are teaching, some are storytelling, and some are simply me thinking out loud as I learn, evolve and heal in real time.
Then come back. The rest will make more sense.
Read the comments and you’re welcome to join our conversations.
Borrow language until you find your own.
If you leave a comment, there’s a good chance you’ll hear from me.
I’m usually somewhere in the comments, holding space, learning alongside everyone else, and continuing the conversation.

You’re welcome here.
xo,
Sly.💛

Thank you. I’m just learning (at seventy!) what it feels like to acknowledge not feeling safe to be myself, to need another.
